To the best of my knowledge, WSJ does not do this, unless they own a trading co. I do not know about. Good bet for you is a discount brokerage house offering on line trading, like Scottrade,
$7 a trade, Sharebuilder is good, $ 4 a trade on a given day of the week, like Tuesday, etc.

Worthy of note, some on line brokers offer a free "practice account" no money changes hands while you learn to use their system, it is a "pretend" game. Might help you !

Yahoo Finance has a good tracking system, as does medved. Use your computer, search engine stock brokerage companies, discount, online.

Practically speaking, that is not possible. With the discount brokerages that now exist, commissions and fees are actually very low.

E-trade, TD Ameritrade, Zecco, etc., ARE all brokerages.

Yes, you can use the company's dividend reinvestment program. Research the company and look up the information about this topic. You will usually be directed to a website that will show you how you can establish an account with an initial stock purchase of perhaps as little as $50. Then, you will receive statements periodically from the company's agent showing you the dividend reinvestments and also allowing you to make additional purchases.

The ONLY way to purchase stocks without a licensed broker or brokerage is through a direct purchase program directly through the company. Two HUGE drawbacks however:
1) The majority of companies DO NOT have such a program
2) You will STILL need a brokerage firm or a broker to sell the stocks.
